into the new dark age

by george zanmiller

come and sit with me
here by the waters of babylon
we shall drink the dark sweet tea
and sing a song of zion

what shall we carry upon our backs
into the new dark age
harps books weapons and packs
the weight of each we'll gauge

but for today we sit by the banks
drinking the dark sweet tea
for soon they come with long range guns
from fire and tanks we must flee

so let us sing and tell our tales
here by the river sea
perhaps it best i leave it all
so that i can carry thee

what use to sing of zion's skies
without my friend to hear
how can i stand before the throne
unless my friend is near

woffie (sharpening his sword just a bit)
