Oh Janis...

The song is Little Girl Blues.

The post that went with song was:

Janis' style proves that she leaves a piece of her heart on everything she sings, but on this track she exposes her soul...

Some people die too soon.

Janis Joplin was, without a doubt, a huge loss to this world. What killed her was exactly what made her so powerful as an artist—she had no spiritual epidermis—no barriers—no facades—but no protective defenses either. When I listen to her sing, I can feel her reaching into me —touching me on the inside, as if she's trying to reassure herself that she's isn't the only one who feels what she was feeling.

James Hillman, in his book, The Soul's Code : In Search of Character and Calling talks about the soul's calling and uses fairly extreme examples of people born with a single calling to fulfill in their lifetime—his examples include Ella Fitzgerald, Hitler, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rommel, Jackson Pollock, Freud, etcetera—and Judy Garland, who he believes was born for the sole purpose of singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

I think that's also true of Janis Joplin. Her interpretation of the classic, Summertime, makes me wonder if she was given to this world just so we could hear her sing this song.
...I wonder what she would have been singing about today…
